Young Rams Cut Strokes, Gain Experience At Staunton

Posted

It was a strange year for the Ramsey-Nokomis boys golf team, but one that saw the Rams take a step in the right direction.

A symbol of that progress came on Tuesday, Oct. 6, at the Class 1A Mt. Olive Regional at Timber Lakes Golf Course in Staunton. After shooting a 418 in the postseason last year, the Rams shot a much improved 392 to end their season, with their sites set for further improvement next year.

Ramsey will lose just one of the six players who teed off in Staunton on Tuesday, as Dallas Sneddon is the only senior in the top six. One of the most consistent Rams this year, the Nokomis seniors shot a solid 44 on the front nine, picking up pars on the second and third holes, before finishing with a 58 on the back half of the course for a 102. That score would be Ramsey’s fifth best of the day and the 43rd best round overall.

Ramsey’s top honors went to Lane Austin, who finished 26th overall with a 93, just seven strokes away from the final individual qualifying spot. The junior shot a 45 on the front nine with three pars, then backed it up on the tougher back nine with a 48, adding two more pars to his scorecard.

Hadley Seaton, another junior, added a 98 to finish 34th, with rounds of 47 and 51, while Wyatt Marley, a sophomore, was 39th with an even 100, with rounds of 43 and 57.

Junior Griffin Wright would round out the scoring with a 46 on the front nine, boasting four pars in the first nine holes, and a 55 on the back nine for a 101 overall, good for 41st place individually.

Nokomis junior Matt Hill would also play on Tuesday for the Rams, shooting a 58 on the front nine, with a par on the ninth hole, and a 55 on the back nine for a 113 overall.

With so many players scheduled to come back and, hopefully, a more normal schedule on tap for next year, the Rams should continue to improve their game in 2021.
