Albert S. “Bert” Russell, 82, died on Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2025, peacefully at the Kinnic Health Nursing Home and Rehab in River Falls, WI.
A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Nov. 29, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Litchfield. Fr. Daniel Willenborg, assisted by Deacon Leland Johns, will officiate. Visitation will be at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of mass. Interment will be in Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Litchfield.
Mr. Russell was born on June 22, 1943, in Litchfield, the son of Al and Evelyn (née Shrader) Russell. He grew up in Litchfield, graduating from Litchfield High School. He later went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in vocational education at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale.
Mr. Russell married Patricia A. (Pat) Holderread on Aug. 31, 1963, in Litchfield at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. He worked at the First National Bank of Litchfield from 1986 to 2010 and after retiring continued to work until his death as a bank consultant.
Mr. Russell was a devoted Catholic and a loving dad, grandpa and great-grandpa to his family. He was very proud of his grandkids and great-grandkids and loved when they visited, texted, or called.
Mr. Russell is survived by his children, Matt (Susan), Kris (Andy) Murgas and Kerri (Kevin) Schmedeke; grandchildren, Rachel (John) Mueller, Jonathan, Ryan (Abigail), Aspen (Lionel) Sotelo, Eric Murgas, Katelyn, Daniel and Megan Schmedeke; great-grandchildren, Adam, Joey, Elena and Melanie Mueller; sisters, Barbara (Earl) Schmidt, Becky (Perry) Jackson and Brenda (Doug) Johnson; and many other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Al and Evelyn Russell and wife, Patricia Russell.
