Evan R. Cain, 64, of Morrisonville, formerly of Virden, died Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2019, at Generations Rehabilitation in Lincoln.

Funeral services were held Saturday, Nov. 2, at Calvert and Ferry Funeral Home in Virden with Pastor Nick Donaldson officiating. Burial was held in Virden Cemetery.

Mr. Cain was born Jan. 31, 1955, in Springfield, the son of Russell E. and Evelyn L. (Wrightsman) Cain. He married JoAnn (Hannon) Charles on Sept. 12, 1987, in Springfield, and she survives.

Baptized at the Virden Church of The Brethren, he attended Harvel New Life Church in Harvel, where he played the guitar for services. He retired as a coal miner from Freeman United Crown II in Virden, with over 30 years of mining. He played guitar in several area bands, most notably Southern Cross Gospel Group for many years. He was member of Christian Motorcycle Association, traveling around the area ministering through music, and was active in prison music ministry. 

In addition to his wife, he is survived by daughters, Linsey Cain and Carly (fiance Michael Boblitt) Hinds, both of Chatham, and Billie Sue (Duayne) Howell of Manchester, IA; sons, Cory (Kelcie) Cain and Jacey (Stephanie) Cain, both of Lake St. Louis, MO, Paul Charles III of Virden and Robert Charles of East Moline; 15 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; sisters, Brenda (David) McKennedy of Auburn, Arlene (Dale) Rhodes of Marion and Nancy Heriford of Virden; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brother-in-law, Robert Heriford.
