Gary Lee Otto Sr., 67, of Mt. Olive, died at 4:28 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 28, 2025, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.
A celebration of life will be held beginning at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 25, at the Lazy Day Campground in Litchfield.
Mr. Otto was born on Oct. 29, 1957, in Staunton, the son of the late Fern (Otto) Massey. He married Kandas Estes on Aug. 31, 2002, in Hillsboro, and she survives.
Mr. Otto was employed as a truck driver with Norfolk and Southern Railroad in Decatur and was a member of Teamsters Local #1107. He loved watching for bald eagles and was an avid Green Bay Packers fan. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, his grandchildren, camping and watching NASCAR.
Mr. Otto is survived by his wife, Kandas Otto of Mt. Olive; three sons, Gary Lee (Jessica) Otto Jr. of Litchfield, Charles R. (Dana) Otto of Staunton and Edward Eugene Otto (Mary Potts) of Fillmore; two stepdaughters, Jennifer (Tyler) Lipe of O’Fallon, MO, and Jill (Travis) Miller of Mt. Olive; eleven grandchildren, Trent, Emma, Ian, Wyatt, Carter, Madison, Aubrey, Sawyer, Khloei, Brylei and Owen; three siblings, James Massey of Alhambra, Janet Sue (Roger) Cartwright of Eagerville and Greg Massey of Worden; one uncle, Ewald Hoffman of Troy; several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
In addition to his mother, Mr. Otto was preceded in death by one brother, David Massey.
