John Elmer Frerichs, 84

John Elmer Frerichs, 84, of Litchfield, died on Thursday, March 5, 2020, at 5:35 p.m. at HSHS St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 10, from 10 a.m. until time of service at Zion Lutheran Church in Litchfield.  Funeral services will begin at noon at the church, with Rev. Fred Kraemer of Zion Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery in Litchfield. Plummer Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. 

Mr. Frerichs was born on Jan. 5, 1936, in Litchfield, to Edward and Emma (Sewing) Frerichs. He graduated from Litchfield High School with the class of 1953. Mr. Frerichs was a veteran of the U.S. Army. 

Early in his life, he farmed with his brother Ben and Junior Niehaus. Mr. Frerichs later worked at Zimmerman Equipment Co., Timmermann Implement Co., and Montgomery Service Co. F.S., now known as M and M Service, as an applicator. He retired in 2018.

Mr. Frerichs was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church, where he was an usher for several years. He enjoyed draft horse pulls, Illini Basketball, pinochle, penny annie poker, and going to various church sausage dinners.

Mr. Frerichs is survived by his sister, Ruth Cranford of Litchfield; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Roy in infancy, George Frerichs and Benjamin Frerichs; and three sisters, Lucille Frerichs, Marie Morris, and Viola McKimmey.
