Karin Bayer (Ressler) Butcher, 80, of Johnson City, TN, died on Friday, Feb. 6, 2026, at Johnson City Medical Center.

A private memorial service will be held in the mountains of East Tennessee this spring. Litchfield Family Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Butcher was born on Sept. 1, 1945, in Nuremberg, Germany, arriving just one day before the end of World War II. The daughter of Wilhelm (Willy) and Martha Lotte Bayer, she was raised with the resilience of her generation. She graduated from Staatliche Berufsschule technical college in Germany, where she mastered the craft of hairdressing.

In 1967, Mrs. Butcher’s first marriage to a U.S. Army soldier brought her across the Atlantic to start a new chapter in America. In the early 1980s, she met the love of her life, Jack W. Butcher. After many years of companionship, they officially wed in Las Vegas, NV, in 1997.

A dedicated professional, Mrs. Butcher owned and operated Town and Country Beauty Salon in Newport, TN, for several years. She later transitioned to the business world, serving as the operations manager for DermaShield USA in Litchfield until her retirement.

Mrs. Butcher was a woman of strong roots and even stronger convictions. She loved a gripping Stephen King novel, the serenity of the ocean and  the vibrant colors of her vegetable garden in bloom. An exceptional cook, she was best known for her authentic German Rouladen, spatzle and red cabbage dishes that brought her family and friends together around the table.

Mrs. Butcher was known for her trademark stubbornness and a rare, direct honesty; you always knew exactly where you stood with her. Yet beneath that iron-willed exterior was a deep, fierce love for her family. She lived for every moment spent with her children, grandchildren and  great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Butcher was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jack W. Butcher; and her parents, Wilhelm (Willy) and Martha Lotte Bayer.

Mrs. Butcher is survived by her daughter, Birgit (Jonathan) Goldfarb of Jonesborough, TN, and  son, Tom (Susan) Ressler of Blountville, TN; grandchildren, Amanda Holmquist of Louisville, KY, Cody (Meg) Ressler of Asheville, NC, and Marie (Travis) Taylor of Kingsport, TN; great-grandchildren, Eleanor, Caroline and Henry.
