Larry N. Saxe, 80, of Morrisonville, died on Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2025, at his residence.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, Dec. 20, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Morrisonville, with a memorial service to follow.
Mr. Saxe was born on May 2, 1945, in Olney, to the late Lester and Susie (Harris) Saxe. He married the love of his life, Sharon Kay Dowdy, and they recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. He graduated from Benton High School and later obtained a bachelor’s and master’s degree from SIU Carbondale, where he played baseball and was a member of the Delta Chi Fraternity. After his studies, he started his career as a history teacher. He then worked for 35 years as a budget analyst with the Attorney General and retired from the Secretary of State’s office in 2007
He was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church in Morrisonville, where he served his church in many ways. He served as a member and treasurer of the Morrisonville School Board for over ten years. He was the trustee and plot manager of Thomas Anderson Cemetery in Palmer, and a former Bear Creek Community Club President. He loved sports and was a die-hard St. Louis Cardinals fan his entire life. After retirement, he enjoyed serving the community as a sports announcer for the Morrisonville High School baseball and softball teams, along with Little League tournaments, leading to being awarded the Denny Daugherty Friend of Athletics Award. He enjoyed being a part of the Lakeshore Golf Course Senior Men’s League, where he kept stats for the teams.
While he kept busy in his career and community, he cherished the time spent with his family most of all. He traveled thousands of miles attending activities, sports and other events for his kids and grandkids and his extended family.
Mr. Saxe is survived by his loving wife, Sharon (Dowdy) Saxe of Morrisonville; daughters, Laurie Deal of St. Peters, MO, and Lisa Brockway of Chatham; sons, David (Kim) Saxe of Palatine and Chris (Angela) Saxe of Morrisonville; grandchildren, Sharidan (Josh) Drake, Damery (Andrea) Deal, Brooklyn (Matthew) Mangold, Andrew, Ryan, Leah, Brennan and Olivia Saxe, Alaina and Mason Brockway and Ella, Eva and Tessa Saxe; great-grandchildren, Rosalie Drake, Harrison Deal and baby boy Mangold arriving in February; and siblings, Tom Saxe and Elaine (Norman) Hayden.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Lester and Susie Saxe; stepmother, Marjorie Saxe; infant sister, Charlotte Saxe; baby brother, “Little” David Saxe; sister, Merilee Anderson; brother-in-law, Lindell Anderson; and sister-in-law, Susan Saxe.
