Lon C. Stroup, 65, a lifetime resident of Irving, died Tuesday, February 2, 2026, at 7:30 p.m., at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., on Monday, Feb. 9, at Hough-Dean Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of service. A celebration of life dinner will follow at the Irving Century House in Irving.

Mr. Stroup graduated with the Hillsboro High School class of 1978. He married the former Ann Logue in 1982; they later divorced.

Mr. Stroup was a lifetime farmer from a very early age. At five, he would help his parents fix equipment by handing them tools and being their “go-for.” He loved to hunt with Dad Stroup, whether it was running coon dogs, or hunting rabbits, deer or squirrel. He also loved to hunt mushrooms and arrowheads. Mr. Stroup had quite a collection of muscle cars. He taught his kids how to fish and frog hunt. Mr. Stroup loved to laugh.

Mr. Stroup is survived by his two daughters, Bobbi Jo Stroup of Belleville and Beth Ann (Dan) Hurren of Vandalia; three grandchildren, Brahedyn, Jaida and Aleigh; and three sisters, Jerri (John Hurst) Stroup of Auburn, CA, Linda (Dave) Warren of Irving and Shelli Maguire of Irving.

The family suggests memorials be made to the Irving Methodist Church in Irving. Hough-Dean is assisting the family.  Condolences may be left online at www.houghdeanfh.com.
