Roy Truman Sturm, Jr., of Hillsboro, died on Wednesday, Feb. 4, 2026, surrounded by loved ones.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, Feb. 14, from 10 a.m. to noon at Hillsboro Methodist Church, followed by a celebration of life service with Pastor Mike Lawton officiating and Irene Graden as organist. Hough-Dean Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Military burial rites will be held at Oak Grove Cemetery in Hillsboro.

Mr. Sturm was born on Oct. 22, 1931, in Clinton, IA, a son of Roy Truman Sr. and Mamie Sturm. He graduated from Clinton High School in 1950. He entered the Army and served in active duty in the Korean Conflict from 1951-52. He married the former Laura Jo Durston, from Harvel, on April 11, 1954, and she survives.

He was employed by many different places in his life. He started as a salesman for Fuller Brush Company, sold life insurance for Metropolitan Life, drove a school bus for Hillsboro Community Unit School District #3, was a rural mail carrier in Hillsboro and drove for CEFS in Taylor Springs. He loved helping others and enjoyed being with people. He was active in the Hillsboro Methodist Church, serving as Sunday school superintendent, youth group leader and head usher for many years. He enjoyed going to gospel sings and sharing his faith for the Lord with others.

Mr. Sturm is survived by his wife; children, Vicki (Ronnie) Flatt of South Carolina and Tami (Jerry) Moler and Kim (Duane) Walker both of Hillsboro; grandchildren, Billy (Angela) Zeigler and Stephanie (Chris) Hart of South Carolina; Mindi (Luke) Armbruster of Taylor Springs; Missy (Mark) Brown of Gillespie, Christina Utley and Michael (Rachel) Flatt of Tennessee, Steve (Taylor) Flatt of Tennessee, Lexie Walker of Mount Olive, Stephen Sturm, Jeremiah (Haley) Walker and Ryan Petcher, all of Hillsboro; great-grandchildren, Clara and Leland Armbruster and honorary granddaughter, Avery Irwin; Kenley, Saylor and Brixley Brown, Max Hart, Palmer Flatt, Erinn Walker, Ashley Enwright and Ariana McCann; and great-great-grandchildren, Alshon and Declan Enwright.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Brian Flatt.
