Stephen D. Meyer, 77, of Springfield, died on Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2025, at his home.
Visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 5, at South Side Christian Church. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m., also at South Side Christian Church, with Pastor Brooks Wilson officiating. A burial will follow at Oak Ridge Cemetery.
Mr. Meyer was born on Nov. 26, 1947, in Springfield, to Harry C. and LuElla (Daniel) Meyer. He married Darla R. Ashmore in 1991 and she preceded him in death on July 7, 2016.
Mr. Meyer was a member of South Side Christian Church, where he served as an elder and deacon. He served as a deputy sheriff for Sangamon County for twenty-six years.
He is survived by two sons, Joshua (Melody) Meyer of Springfield and Brian (Lisa) Meyer of Springfield; two stepsons, Christopher Wagehoft of Morrisonville and Matthew Wagehoft of Springfield; five grandchildren, Amber, Riley, Cameron, Ella and Ethan; two brothers, the Rev. Harry (Linda) Meyer of Hillsboro and Thomas (Luann) Meyer of Sherman; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Meyer is also preceded in death by his parents; brother, David Meyer; and daughter-in-law, Melody Meyer.
