Vernon LeRoy Blain, 81, of Hillsboro, died on Jan. 26, 2026, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 31 at Hough-Dean Funeral Home in Hillsboro, with Randy Sands officiating. Services concluded at McInturff Cemetery in Hagarstown, near Mulberry Gorve. Hough-Dean Funeral Home is assisted the family.
Mr. Blain was born in Alton on June 21, 1944, a son to James and Retha (Swafford) Blain. He married the former Faye Louise Wollin on June 8, 1963, at Augsburg Lutheran Church in Augsburg, and she survives. In his spare time, he greatly enjoyed hunting and fishing.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Jeff Blain of Virden; Danny (Paula) Blain of Texas and Michael E. (Gidget) Blain of Hillsboro; daughter, Sandy (Daniel) O’Guinn of Hillsboro; sisters, Brenda Cox and Delores Tish, both of Decatur; brother, David (Kathy) Blain of Vandalia; grandchildren, Christine Blain, Samantha Blain, Cody Blain, Michael J. (Kelsey) Blain, Joshua Blain, Andrew (Ashley) O’Guinn, Matthew O’Guinn and Caleb O’Guinn; three great-grandchildren and another on the way; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Lester Blain; and sister, Edna Hall.
To honor Mr. Blain’s love of animals, the family suggests memorials be directed to Montogmery County Animal Control.
