Mr. Carriker was born in Litchfield on Aug. 31, 1956, a son of Elmer and Leona (Walch) Carriker. He graduated from Lincolnwood High School in Raymond, with the class of 1974. He was employed as a truck driver most of his career. The last several years he was owner and operator of his own truck and drove many miles transporting various freight around the country. If one could name a mile marker on a specific highway, he could name a restaurant or other landmark that was near it.
He loved working on small engines and saved many lawnmowers in his time. He made friends wherever he went. He was good-hearted and helped anyone he could. He served as a volunteer firefighter for several years with the Hartford Volunteer Fire Department and was also a part-time employee for the village of Hartford. He lived life in “Wayne’s World” and that was what made him happy.
Mr. Carriker is survived by his brothers, Joe Carriker of Raymond and Roger (Terry) Carriker of St. Louis, MO; several nieces and nephews; companion, Debra Minor of Moro; and special friends and caregivers, Rob, Lois and Dennis.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer and Leona Carriker; and sister, Alice Carriker.
The family suggests making monetary donations to the First Baptist Church of Hartford, 301 N. Delmar Ave., Hartford, IL 62048, or to OSF Moeller Oncology Center, 2200 Central Avenue, Alton, IL 62002.
