Alva M. Hicks, 83, of Bingham died Tuesday, Nov. 24, 2015, at Hillsboro Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Hillsboro. 

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 28, at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in rural Ramsey with the Revs. Edmund Hill, Bill Stephens and Gregg Shannon officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery in rural Ramsey.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 27, at Miller Funeral Home in Ramsey and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.

Mr. Hicks was born on Nov. 30, 1931, in Montgomery County, the son of the late John Edward and Wave Belle (Cade) Hicks. He married Hazel May Boles on Aug. 19, 1950, in Vandalia, and she survives in Bingham.

He was a farmer and a former deacon at Mt. Carmel Baptist Church in rural Ramsey.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Hicks is survived by his sons, Ronnie (Karen) Hicks of Bingham, Mike (Cindy) Hicks and Johnny (Sandy) Hicks, both of Ramsey; daughters, Joyce (Bob) Eddy of Ramsey and Brenda (Kenny) Eddy of Shelbyville; brother, Clyde (Dorothy) Hicks of Bethany; sister, Jewel (Bobby) Babb of Pana; 16 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren with two on the way.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Louella McClure.

Memorials may be made to Mt. Carmel Cemetery in rural Ramsey.
