Charles "Chuck" Howard Otterstedt, 95, formerly of Champaign, IL, died on Thursday, Nov. 19, 2015, at Montgomery Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Taylor Springs with his daughter, Debra, at his side.

Cremation rites were accorded and private family services are planned at a later date.

Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home in Hillsboro is assisting the family.

Mr. Otterstedt was born on Jan. 8, 1920, in Victor, IA, to the late Henry and Lois (Edelen) Otterstedt. 

After high school he enlisted in the Marine Corp to serve in World War II where he attained the rank of Corporal while serving in the South Pacific.

He was retired from Super Valu, Inc. where he was in charge of all grocery buying for the company.

Mr. Otterstedt married Marion von Aswege on May 11, 1940, and the couple divorced in 1970. Four children were born from this union, Jacqueline Kay who died in infancy, Stephen Charles (Karen) Otterstedt of Georgetown, TX, Debra Christine (Keith) Walcher of Nokomis, and Rebecca Anne Hovancak of Montfort, WI.

He then married Norma Jean Craig on July 9, 1971, in Champaign, and she preceded him in death.

Along with his three children, Mr. Otterstedt is survived by six grandchildren, Jeffrey, Amy, Michael, Mindy, Cassandra and Joshua; seven great grandchildren, Tyler, Kyle, Sophie, Sydney, Isaac, Ryan and Addelyn; and good friend Pat Pritts, an employee of Forsyth Assisted Living who acted as guardian when he took part on the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C.

Memorials are suggested to Montgomery Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Taylor Springs and Paws Care in Hillsboro.
