Donald D. Chesnut, 86, Glen Carbon, at 6:15 pm Thursday, June 25, 2015, at Anderson Hospital in Maryville.                    

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 pm Monday, June 29, at Elias, Kallal & Schaaf Funeral Home in Bethalto. Private family services will be held. 

Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memory Gardens in Bethalto with military honors given by Alton VFW Post 1308.

Mr. Chestnut was born on March 3, 1929 in Sorento, the son of the late Marion and Bernice (Tipsword) Chesnut.                    

Mr. Chestnut served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He was an accountant at McDonnell Douglas for over 30 years until his retirement in 1989.

He enjoyed golfing, bowling and spending time with his family. Whether it was on the golf course, in a gym, in a dance studio or the ball field, his family said he always loved watching and supporting his grandchildren.

He was also a lifelong Chicago Cubs and Illinois State fan.

Mr. Chestnut is survived by Jane A. Howe, whom he married on June 9, 1956, in Dover, DE. The couple just celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary.

He is also survived by two daughters, Pam Broadway of Bethalto and Mary Beth (Richard) Sims of Edwardsville; four grandchildren, Kayla (Jordan) McGaughey, Katie Broadway, Kelsey Sims and Connor Sims; a sister, DeMova Hoxsey of Sorento; and several nieces and nephews.  

He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Alfred Hoxsey.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Alzheimer’s Association.
