Donald Leon Niemann, 87, of Hillsboro died Thursday, May 14, 2015, at 5:13 a.m. in his home. 

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Saturday, May 16, at Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, May 17, at the funeral home with the Rev. Jay Johnson, pastor of Union Avenue Christian Church in Litchfield, officiating.

Burial will be in Hart Cemetery in South Litchfield Township.

Mr. Niemann was born on May 10, 1928, in Granite City, the  son of the late Walter William Martin and Ivy Marie (Green) Niemann. He married Jean Carol (Stumbo) Cariveau on Dec. 6, 1960, in Ulen, MN, and she survives.

He graduated from Litchfield High School and was a U.S. Army veteran. He served during the Korean War and was stationed in Germany. He was a member of Union Avenue Christian Church in Litchfield.

In his leisure time, Mr. Niemann enjoyed gardening, especially growing hostas and raising coi in his fish ponds. He was an avid Cardinals baseball fan and  a professional truck driver for 40 years. He drove for Gilster-Marylee Corp. for 22 years. He and his wife also enjoyed wintering in Mesa, AZ.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Jeffrey (Sandy) Niemann, Bradley (Mary Jane) Niemann and Eric (Janet) Niemann, all of Hillsboro; three daughters, Laurel Camden of Hillsboro, Carrie (Jay) Heck of New Bern, NC, and Donna (Ron) Clark of Hillsboro; daughter-in-law, Bonnie Niemann of Ft. Wayne, IN; two brothers, Gerald G. (Jeanne) Niemann of Cookeville, TN, and Rick R. (Mary Jo) Niemann of Litchfield; 19 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

Besides his parents, Mr. Niemann was preceded in death by one son, Scott T. Niemann.

The family suggests memorials to Litchfield Food Pantry or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
