Edward W. Slightom, Sr., 92, of Hillsboro died Sunday, May 22, 2016, in Hillsboro Area Hospital.

Funeral services for Mr. Slightom are scheduled for Thursday, May 26, at noon in the Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home in Hillsboro. The Rev. Randy Sands will officiate, with burial to be in Elmwood Cemetery in Litchfield. Visitation begins Thursday, the day of the funeral, from 10 a.m. until the service begins.

He was born on July 17, 1923, in Litchfield to Matthew and Grace (Smith) Slightom. A union member, he had worked for years for Fuller Brothers of Hillsboro. He was a Seabee in the Navy during WWII, and he belonged to the Hillsboro Free Methodist Church.

He married Marjorie Pruitt in April of 1943 in Hillsboro, and she survives. Also surviving are three sons, Larry (wife Carolyn) Slightom and Russell Slightom, all of Hillsboro and Lyndle (wife Margene) Slightom of Mattoon; one daughter, Lena Beck of Punta Gorda, FL; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Edward William Slightom, Jr. ; and one sister, Marjorie; and two brothers, Ross and James Slightom.
