Esther L. Frey, 85, of rural Litchfield died Saturday, June 20, 2015, at 2:22 p.m. in St. Francis Hospital, Litchfield.
Funeral services for Mrs. Frey are scheduled for Tuesday, June 23, at 11 a.m. in the Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield. The Rev. Fred Kramer will officiate, and burial will be in Elm Lawn Cemetery, Litchfield. Visitation will be at Plummer's from 10 a.m. until time of services on Tuesday.
Mrs. Frey was born on the Emil Niemann farm south of Litchfield on Nov. 18, 1929, to Emil and Dorothy (Reising) Niemann. She married William Robert Frey on Oct. 24, 1954, in St. John's Lutheran Church in South Litchfield Township; he preceded her in death on June 17, 2012.
Also preceding her were a daughter, Amy L. Frey; a brother, Roy Niemann; and her parents.
She is survived by a daughter, Sharon L. Frey of Maryville; one sister, Alice (Vernon) Droste of Mt. Olive; brother-in-law, Lee Frey of Denver, CO; a sister-in-law, Lois Niemann of Litchfield; and several nieces and nephews.
A 1948 graduate of Litchfield Community High School, she worked at the Litchfield Creamery/Milnot for a time. She and her husband lived in Edwardsville for many years, then moved to Clinton, IA, before retiring back to Litchfield.
She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church and of the Phi Sigma Nu Sorority. She enjoyed growing and propagating African violets and playing piano. She also created beautiful needlepoint and cross-stitching as well as long hand needlepoint. She was an avid Cardinal fan.
