Gary Hoffstetter, 71

Gary G. Hoffstetter, 71, of Greenville died Friday, Oct. 28, 2016, at St. John’s Hospital in Springfield. 

Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 4, at Williamson Funeral Home in Staunton. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Flo Scott officiating. Burial will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery in Staunton. 

Mr. Hoffstetter was born on Dec. 27, 1944, in Broken Arrow, OK, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Wilbur Hoffstetter. He married Barbara J. Friedman on March 14, 1970, in Greensboro, NC, and she preceded him in death on Aug. 11, 2013.

He retired as an electrical engineer for Southwestern Bell in Dallas, TX. He was a caring and loving father and grandfather, as well as a volunteer who was always thinking of others. He was known as a smart man and a wonderful singer.

Mr. Hoffstetter was also a scoutmaster for Troop #641 at the Ross School in St. Louis. In addition, he was a member of the United Methodist Church of Greenville and a ham radio operator – call letter K9SCD.

He is survived by one son, Gary F. (Cheryl) Hoffstetter of Staunton; one daughter, Anna M. (Hal) Bumgarner of Chanute, KS; four grandchildren, Nicholas and Theodore Hoffstetter and Tristen and Nelson Bumgarner; one brother, Gerald (Hilda) Hoffstetter of New York; one sister, Geraldine (Russell) Rhodes of Schram City; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society or to the ALS Foundation.
