Gerald L. Miller, 66, of Irving died Sunday, Oct. 19, 2014, at 12:43 a.m. in Memorial Medical Center, Springfield.

Funeral services for Mr. Miller are scheduled for 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 22, at the Bass Patton Dean Funeral Home in Hillsboro. William Fairbanks will officiate, with burial to be in Bost Hill Cemetery, rural Fillmore. Military Rites will be observed at graveside by V.F.W. Post #1306 and American Legion Post #425. Visitation will be Tuesday, Oct. 21, from 5 until 8 p.m. at Bass Patton Dean's.

Mr. Miller was born on Sept. 20, 1948, in Hillsboro to Emil and Imogene (Lynch) Miller. A 1966 graduate of Hillsboro High, he was a U.S. Army vet, serving from 1968 through 1971 in Korea and in Ft. Bliss, TX. Besides Irving, he had lived in Freeburg and Hillsboro.

He worked as a coal miner for 20 years, as an over-the-road truck driver for 17 years and as a bus driver for Hillsboro Unit #3 Community School District for seven years.

He and Janice Miles were married in Irving on April 18, 1970, and she survives in Irving. Also surviving are two sons, Michael Miller (companion Marie Addleman) and Gregory Miller; one daughter-in-law, Carrie Miller; one granddaughter, Danielle Miller; one grandson, Corey Miller; two brothers, David (wife Karen) Miller and Dale (wife Kat) Miller, and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Kenneth Miller.

The family suggests memorials be directed to the ALS Association or to Wounded Warriors.
