Judge Robert Joseph Cashen, 84, of St. Paul, MN, formerly of Wyoming, IL and Litchfield, died Sunday, Oct. 30, 2016, at 10:48 p.m. at the Marian Center in St. Paul, MN. 

Rosary will be held at 5:45 p.m. prior to visitation on Friday, Nov. 4, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield. A Mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday, Nov. 5, at 10 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Litchfield with the Very Rev. James L. Neuman, V.F., officiating.

Burial will be in Holy Cross Cemetery in Litchfield.

Judge Cashen was born in Litchfield, the son of Peter James and Kathryn Elizabeth (Flynn) Cashen. A veteran of the U.S. Army, he was stationed in New Jersey.

He graduated from St. Bede Academy in Peru, IL, and attended Fordham University in New York City before transferring to DePaul University School of Law in Chicago. He practiced law in Toulon for several years and served as judge for the 10th Judicial Circuit for the state of Illinois from 1984 to 1999. That circuit includes Marshal, Peoria, Putnam, Stark and Tazewell counties. He presided at Stark County Court mainly.

Judge Cashen was a member of the Wyoming Lions Club and served as president and a member of the St. Dominic’s Catholic Church in Wyoming.

He is survived by two daughters, Colleen Cashen (Lisa Stromquist) of St. Paul, MN, and Tracy (Tom) Gardiner of Mamaroneck, NY; brother, William Cashen of West Chester, PA; sister, Kathryn M. Todt of Litchfield; and six grandchildren, Gannon (Binu Shrestha) Stromquist-LeVoir of Minneapolis, MN, Tyler Stromquist-LeVoir of Minneapolis, MN, Keenan Cashen –Smart of Morris, MN, Bryn Cashen -Smart of Duluth, MN, Grace Gardiner of Mamaroneck, NY, and John Gardiner of Mamaroneck, NY.

Judge Cashen was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Elizabeth Ann Cashen, who died in her childhood.

The family suggests memorials to: St. Dominic's Catholic Church or the Alzheimer's Association of Illinois.
