Layton Matthew Pezold, 19, of Walshville, died on Friday, Oct. 12, 2018, at 3:29 a.m. at Children's Hospital in St. Louis, MO.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, Oct. 16, from 2:30 to 8 p.m. in Simmons Gym at Litchfield High School. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, Oct. 17, beginning at 11 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Litchfield with Father Tom Hagstrom and Father Larry Anschutz, both of Blessed St. John Paul II Catholic Church in Mt. Olive, co-officiating.

Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Litchfield. Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield is assisting the family.

Layton was born on March 23, 1999, in Litchfield, to Doug and Jenny (Wendel) Pezold.

He graduated from Litchfield High School with the class of 2017, where he played football and basketball and was a member of the FFA. He was a student at Heartland Community College in Bloomington-Normal, and was employed as a delivery and assembly man at Martin's Home Furniture Co. in Bloomington.

Layton was baptized in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Panama and was a member of Blessed St. John Paul II Catholic Church in Mt. Olive.

He had the kindest soul, the most beautiful blue eyes and the most contagious smile. He was the Green Bay Packers' biggest fan, and loved hanging out with family and friends, playing video games and listening to music.

His favorite music was The Band, CCR and Lynyrd Skynyrd. He left the biggest impression on everyone. Forever and always Pezold Strong!

Layton is survived by his parents of Walshville; fiancee to be, Eaden D. Fleming of Litchfield; a brother, Logan (Shawna) Pezold of Walshville; two sisters, Brittney (Dane) Fletcher of Litchfield and Brooke Pezold of Walshville; paternal grandparents, Fred and Loretta (Gruenloh) Pezold of Walshville; "second mom," Diana Sisson of Litchfield; nieces and nephews, Easton, Bexley and Avelina Pezold and Rowan and Crew Fletcher, also known as "the grandbabies" as Layton called them; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, John and Betty (Henry) Wendel.
