Rev. John Heidbreder, 90

The Rev. John C. Heidbreder, 90, of Lindsborg, KS, died at 8:45 p.m. on Tuesday, April 10, 2012, at Riverview Estates in Marquette, KS.

Funeral services were held on April 14, at Elim Lutheran Church in Marquette, KS, with Pastor Delvin Strecker officiating and Wally Bunk assisting.

Burial was in Smoky Hill Cemetery in rural Lindsborg, KS. Glidden-Ediger Funeral Home in McPherson, KS, was in charge of arrangements.

The Rev. Heidbreder was born in Brooklyn, NY, on Feb. 7, 1922, the son of the late Grant Henry and Ida Florence (Stonecipher) Heidbreder. He married Mary V. Scott in Hillsboro on Sept. 10, 1950, and she survives in Lindsborg, KS.

He attended Kansas City elementary schools and graduated from University City High School in University City, MO. He then attended Bradley Polytechnic School in Peoria, where he studied watchmaking.

During this time,  the Rev. Heidbreder  joined the United States Navy and honorably served his country during World War II. After the war, he graduated from Carthage College in Carthage. He received his divinity degree from Central Lutheran Theological Seminary in Fremont, NE. 

He was a minister and served five Lutheran churches in different locations, including Niobrara, NE, Lindy, NE, Chapman, KS, Lanark, IL, and Darrouzett, TX. He worked for the Hesston Corporation in Hesston, KS. Later, he worked as a Kansas State Employee in  job services and SRS, where he retired.

The Rev. Heidbreder was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, minister and friend. 

In addition to his wife of over 61 years, he is survived by children, Florence E. (husband Robert) Peterson and John H. Heidbreder, both of Lindsborg, KS, Margaret A. (husband Bradley) Hall of Newton, KS, and Katherine (husband Matthew) Logan of Wichita, KS; six grandchildren, Melissa Peterson of Overland Park, KS, Joshua Peterson of Lindsborg, KS, Christina (husband Jamie) Brunzell of Newton, KS, Nathan (wife Sara) Hall of Valley Center, KS, and Sam Logan  and Jessie Logan, both of Wichita, KS; three great-grandchildren, Ethan, Taylor and Michael Hall of Valley Center, KS; and other relatives and friends.

Besides his parents, the Rev. Heidbreder was preceded in death by his twin brother, George Heidbreder.
