Vince Marquess, 87, of Hopkinsville, KY, formerly of Nokomis and Raymond, died Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2016, at his residence.

Cremation rites will be accorded and a memorial service will be held at a later date.

Mr. Marquess was born in Hopkinsville, KY, on July 21, 1928, the son of  Audley Roy and Katherine Caroline Williamson Perkins Marquess. He married Elsie Thornton on April 9, 1955, in Greenfield, and she preceded him in death on Nov. 3, 2013.

He graduated from Murray State University, where he was a member of the football team that played in the 1949 Tangerine Bowl. He received his master's degree from the University of Florida and his doctorate in education from Auburn University in Alabama.

Mr. Marquess was an educator and football coach in Greenfield, West Palm Beach and Belle Glade, FL. He later served as a school administrator and was also administrator of several nursing homes in central Illinois, including Golden Manor in Nokomis.

He retired back to his hometown of Hopkinsville, KY, in 2000 where he was an active member of the First United Methodist Church. His faith was important to him as was his family. His greatest joy was spending time with his family.

He is survived by his sons, Charles (Elizabeth "Keith") Marquess, Nate Marquess (companion Janice Davis), both of Hopkinsville, KY, Roy (Jo Ann) Marquess of Nokomis and John Marquess of Denham Springs, LA;  daughters, Mary Nell "Missy" (Bill) Vancil of Grover, NC, Liz (Ed) Durec of North Riverside and Lydia (Michael) Lucas of Brookfield, MA; 17 grandchildren, Cory, Katie and Susan Marquess,  Amber Vancil, Jake, Sara and Zach Marquess, Carmen Marquess, Tim and Grace Marquess, Ali (Matt) Alvarado, Becca Durec and Alex, Patrick, Reilly, Mike and Kelsie Lucas; and one great-granddaughter, Stella Marquess.

Besides his wife, Mr. Marquess was preceded in death by  a son, Tim Marquess in 1990; grandson, Seth Marquess in 1990; brother, Perk; and sister, Evelyn.
