David Harold Shoraga, 76, of Witt, died on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.
Visitation for Mr. Shoraga will be held Monday, April 1, at Stiehl Dawson Funeral Home of Witt from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. Funeral services will follow with the Rev. Christen Prumm officiating. Burial will follow at Witt Cemetery. Military rites will be accorded by Waples-Bauer Post 94, Nokomis American Legion and the US Army Honors Team. Stiehl Dawson Funeral Home of Witt is assisting the family with arrangements.
Mr. Shoraga was born Nov. 15, 1947 in Pana, to Harold and Florence (Hampton) Shoraga. He was a graduate of Witt High School and went on to serve his country with the US Army in Vietnam. He and Linda Holliday were married at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Nokomis on June 27, 1970, and she survives. They had celebrated 54 years of marriage.
Mr. Shoraga was employed as a coal miner in Coffeen and later in Farmersville. He had also been a semi truck driver. After retiring, he went to work for the City of Witt and was Superintendent of the Street Department. He was a member of the American Legion, Witt Lions Club and Nokomis Sportman’s Club. Some of his greatest memories were camping with his family, nice cars and trucks and riding his Harley Davidson.
In addition to his wife, Linda, Mr. Shoraga is survived by his daughter Lori (Ernie) Cole of Nokomis; sons, David Shoraga, Jr. of Ohlman and Rodney (Chrissy) Lehnen of Pana; grandchildren, Shelby, Craig, Amanda, Heather, Heath and Hunter; and brother, Danny (JoAnn) Shoraga of West Frankfort.
