David Wayne Roberts, 65, of Jacksonville, died Saturday, March 2, 2024, at the home of his son.

A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 8, at the Buchanan and Cody Funeral Home in Jacksonville. The family will meet friends from 10 to 11 a.m. prior to the service.

Mr. Roberts was born Sept. 15, 1958, in Eldorado, the son of the late Victor Wayne and Hilary Beryl Mary (Norris) Roberts. He married Jane Gorda and together they had three beloved sons.

Mr. Roberts was a 1976 graduate of Hillsboro High School, and then graduated from Blackburn College. He later obtained his master’s degree from the University of Illinois Springfield. He was a social studies teacher at Springfield Lanphier High School for nearly 30 years.

He enjoyed gardening, traveling, golfing and was a die-hard St. Louis Cardinals fan. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He was the proudest dad and papa. There was no greater joy in his life than watching his grandchildren in their sports and activities.

Mr. Roberts is survived by his three sons, Timothy (Kelsie) Roberts of Chapin, Aaron (Kristen) Roberts of Anna and Zachary (Lauryn) Roberts of Centralia; four grandchildren, Avery, Quinn, Lincoln and Riggins Roberts; his stepmother, Carolyn Roberts of Taylorville; one brother, Brent (Jeannie) Roberts of Chattanooga, TN; one sister, Vicki (Jim) DuMontelle of St. Charles, MO; and his significant other, Jody Whited of Jacksonville.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his twin brother, Mark Roberts.
