Born on Feb. 16, 1935, in Irving, Mrs. Burkholder grew up in Irving, South St. Louis, MO, and Alton. Her artistic talent led her to Shurtleff College, where she graduated with a degree in art. She was also offered a full scholarship to the University of Illinois for art.
She worked for several years in the art department at McDonnell Douglas, where she contributed to diagrams for the F-4 and Mercury projects. She also helped create several paintings for the company’s headquarters and a mural at the St. Louis airport. Her work reflected both her artistic vision and her attention to detail.
Her creativity extended well beyond her professional work. While living in St. Joseph, MO, she was featured on local television and in the newspaper for her imaginative decorations and design.
Faith, service and community were meaningful parts of Mrs. Burkholder’s life. She was a member of Bonhomme Presbyterian Church in Chesterfield, MO, and the Old Stone Church community.
