Mary A. Roodhouse, 92, of Greenville, died at 2:50 a.m. on Feb. 19, 2024, at Pana  Community Hospital.

Family and friends will gather for visitation on Saturday, March 9, from 1 p.m. until the time of the service at Donnell-Wiegand Funeral Home in Greenville. A celebration of life memorial service will follow at 3 p.m.

Mrs. Roodhouse was born on Aug. 30, 1931, in White Hall to James Warren and Frances Marie (Miller) Campbell. She was the oldest of seven children.

Growing up in Hillview, Mrs. Roodhouse attended country schools. Her family moved to White Hall, where she graduated from White Hall High School. During high school, she met the love of her life, C. Bennett Roodhouse.

Mrs. Roodhouse attended nursing school at Memorial Hospital in Alton, while Mr. Roodhouse joined the ROTC and went to college at the University of Illinois. She finished nursing school, graduating as a registered nurse.

The couple were married on her birthday, Aug. 30, 1952, at her family’s home. They were stationed in the army in Tacoma, WA, Fort Sill, OK and Salem.

The family moved to Greenville in 1957, and while raising their family, Mrs. Roodhouse worked as a nurse at Utlaut Memorial Hospital, retiring in 1972. After her retirement, her husband continued to work and they enjoyed many activities together. Some of these activities included church, reading the Bible and other books together, visiting their children and grandchildren, camping and traveling, and gardening.

Mr. and Mrs. Roodhouse enjoyed over 65 years together before his death on Oct. 8, 2017. In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by five siblings, Peggy Post, Donald Campbell, Robert Campbell, Kenneth Campbell and Samuel Campbell.

She is survived by four children, Steven P. (Cindy) Roodhouse of Couer d’Alene, ID, Kathy M. (Gary) Marshall of Pana, Carol A. Root of Red Bud and Judy R. (Dr. Gerald) Zumwalt of Hillsboro; 11 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren and a brother, Dr. James (Lynn) Campbell of Cape Girardeau, MO.

The family suggests memorials in her name be designated to the Bond Christian Service Camp, 1119 Missouri Blvd., Mulberry Grove, IL 62262 or they may be left at the funeral home.
