(David) Scott Rentz, 61, of Montgomery, died peacefully on Sept. 14, 2026.

A wake will be held on Sept. 24, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Dieterle Memorial Home, located at 1120 S. Broadway, in Montgomery. A celebration of life service will be held on Sept. 25, at 10 a.m. at Dieterle Memorial Home with a luncheon in Mr. Rentz’ memory to follow at 11:30 a.m., at Fireside Grille, located at 49 Sugar Lane, in Sugar Grove.

Born Jan. 10, 1965, in Litchfield,  to Judy Reynolds and David Rentz, Mr. Rentz lived a life fueled by quick wit, natural charisma and a love of the outdoors. He possessed a rare charm that drew people in instantly and he spent a lifetime lighting up rooms with his sarcastic jokes and ensnaring laughter. He was happiest when surrounded by nature and family, whether fishing, hunting or taking pictures. He would never pass up a moment to fire up the grill with a cold beer in hand.

Beyond his humor and love of the outdoors, he was always ready to lend a hand when needed, both to family and his community. He lent out countless tools to his neighbors and would help them at a moment’s notice. He spent years volunteering at his local church when they were short handed.

Mr. Rentz wasn’t a big lover of music, but he was always ready to watch a movie with his family. His favorite movies were anything written by John Hughes and the “Back to the Future” trilogy.

A natural leader, he excelled as a maintenance and repair manager, bridging the gap between complex technical challenges and the people who solved them. He didn’t just manage operations; he mentored his team, earning their deep respect through his fair leadership and willingness to stand alongside them on the shop floor. His technical insight made him an invaluable leader, but his true legacy lies in the careers he helped build and the close-knit teams he fostered throughout his career.

As a repair tech manager for the better part of his career, he was the anchor for his team, bringing a rare blend of steady leadership and infectious humor to any job site. No matter how chaotic a breakdown was, he had a gift for defusing tension with a quick wit and a reassuring smile, instantly making everyone feel that the problem was fixable. He didn’t just oversee the department; he built a workplace filled with laughter, camaraderie and a shared pride in a job well done. While he worked at different places throughout this impressive career, he finished out his time with FlexPrint as a senior field service engineer.

Mr. Rentz is survived by his loving wife of 39 years, Sheryl Rentz; his children, Garrett (Randi) Rentz and Tyler Rentz; brother, Craig (Karen) Rentz; nephew, Blake Rentz; niece Hailey Rentz; dog he begrudgingly loved, Rizzo; mother, Judy Reynolds; father-in-law, Jerry Niewold; mother-in-law, Carole Niewold; sister-in-law, Laura Abbruzzese; and extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his father David Rentz; and household pets, Jack, Coco, and Midnight, that he would never admit to loving as much as he did.
