Walter Dean McNeill, 86, of Witt died Thursday, May 21, 2015, at Nokomis Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Nokomis.
Visitation will be from 2 to 3 p.m. Sunday, May 24, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Nokomis. Funeral services will follow at 3 p.m. at the church with Pastor Bert Eickhoff officiating.
Burial will be in Nokomis Cemetery. Sutton Funeral Home in Nokomis is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. McNeill was born on July 16, 1928, in Champaign, the son of the late Ralph and Bertha (Holzhauer) McNeill. He married Anna Marie Johnson on Feb. 22, 1947, in Champaign, and she preceded him in death.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Nokomis, the American Legion and the UAW Local 751. He retired from Caterpillar, was a lifelong farmer and an avid gardener and a flower enthusiast.
Mr. McNeill is survived by his sons, Michael (Barb) McNeill of Chicago, Dennis McNeill, James (Angie) McNeill and Curtis (Annette) McNeill, all of Nokomis; daughter, Patricia Smith of Taylorville; grandchildren, Melissa Park, Crystal Miles, Shawn McNeill, Samantha Weinstein, Ben McNeill, Misty Smith, Angel Smith, Brent Smith, Timothy McNeill, Ryan McNeill, Lauren McNeill, Heather McNeill, Tyler McNeill and Caleb McNeill; 21 great-grandchildren; brother, Bill McNeill of Tolono; and sisters, Lula Mae Williams of California and Lucy Denniston of Urbana.
Besides his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Gerald McNeill, Ralph McNeill and Ronald McNeill; and his son-in-law, Allen “Butch” Smith.
Memorials may be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church Sunday School Fund and will be received by the Sutton Funeral Home in Nokomis.
