Delores Mae Collier, 91, of Greenville, died on April 12, 2024, at Hickory Estates Memory Care in Greenville.
Visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, April 19, at First Baptist Church, located at 218 E. South Ave. in Greenville. Funeral will follow the visitation at 11 a.m.. Burial will be at Mt. Auburn Cemetery, following the funeral.
Mrs. Collier was born June 24, 1932, in Vandalia, the daughter of Arthur and Oma Mae (Hudson) German. She attended Vandalia High School through her Junior year and later went on to receive her GED. She married Aaron Collier on Aug. 16, 1950, in Greenville, and they were married for over 67 years. In 2017, he preceded her in death.
Mrs. Collier made Greenville her home and worked on the farm with her husband for 12 years before moving into town. For over 21 years she worked for DeMoulin Brothers where she did stamping and marking for the embroidery department.
She was a hardworking mother who liked to garden, as well as was an excellent cook and seamstress, often making the girls’ clothing, such as Easter dresses and other fine outfits. She loved to entertain, often throwing card parties with friends. She and her husband loved to travel, especially after retirement. Later in life she enrolled in an art class at the University of Illinois where her love of painting shown through.
Mrs. Collier was very involved with her church, oftentimes you could find her doing crafts, baking events, helping with the children’s Bible school, and always willing to fill in wherever she was needed. The Bible was one of her favorite books to read and she found peace and inspiration from it.
She is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Hopkins of Lawrenceville, GA; Loretta Summers of Lebanon, IN; Janet (John) Guetterman of Knightdale, NC; Cheryl (Robert) Foehner of Greenville and Nancy (Jeffrey) Tischhauser of Pocahontas; 11 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Collier was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Kathryn Holzhauer; and siblings, Harry German, Gene German, Irene Haire, Thelma Hornbeck, Helen Short, Lelia Seats, Lloyd German and Norma Gene Forbes.
The family asks that donations be made to the First Baptist Church and/or Bond County Hospice, in lieu of flowers, plants, and other gifts. Memorial contributions may be given at the visitation and funeral or mailed to the First Baptist Church, 218 E. South Ave., Greenville, IL 62246, and/or Bond County Hospice, 1520 S. Fourth Street, Greenville, IL 62246.
