Sophia M. Southworth, 92, of Litchfield, died at 2:12 p.m. Saturday, April 13, 2024, at HSHS St. John’s Hospital in Springfield.
A memorial service is being planned and service arrangements are pending at this time. Plummer Funeral and Cremation Service is assisting the family.
Mrs. Southworth was born July 1, 1931, in Litchfield, a daughter of Michael and Katherine (Semplowski) Funk. She attended Litchfield schools, and worked for Brown Shoe Co., and Roller Derby Skate Corp. both in Litchfield. She married George Claytor on Aug. 7, 1951. Mr. Claytor passed away April 28, 1973. She then married Roscoe Southworth on July 5, 1975. Mr. Southworth preceded her in death on Jan. 6, 2000.
Mrs. Southworth enjoyed playing golf, bowling and dancing. She also enjoyed cooking for family gatherings. In her younger years, she played on the Brown Shoe Co. women’s softball team “The Air Steppers”.
Mrs. Southworth is survived by her two sons, Steven (Lisa) Claytor of Pocahontas and Kenneth (Debbie) Claytor of Fulshear, TX; two daughters, Georgia (Carl) Beechler and Jody (Mark) Elizondo, both of Litchfield; two sisters, Edna Nail of Litchfield and Helen Zimmerman of Dublin, OH; eight grandchildren, Sarah (Andrew) White, Jennifer (Brian) Lickenbrock, Stephanie (Brian) Thompson, Travis Fletcher, Austin Claytor, Kelli Claytor, Amy (Jeff) Barr and Derek (Angie) Dunham; nine great-grandchildren, Lincoln, Chandler, Hunter, Ethan, Mark, Michael, Presley, Porter and Kelsey.
Mrs. Southworth is preceded in death by her parents and husbands; brothers; Walter, Stanley, infant Frank, Louis, Charles, Joe and Michael; three sisters; Stephanie Rousch, Regina Nail, and Katherine Whitehouse; two grandchildren; Brittany Marie Elizondo and Nicholas Elizondo.
